Book of the film of the same name by Andreas Dresen on love and sex in old age
An outstanding book needs an appropriate accompanying book. A book that confirms and complements the success of the film, an epilogue so to speak. Just as the film Cloud 9 by director Andreas Dresen and producer Peter Rommel is a work of art, the book Cloud 9 is enthralling and informative. It is not merely one of those film books which just prints the script and interviews with people involved, or even just a whole load of film photos. Of course, this book also satisfies the wish of the reader who wants to find out more about the film makers' intentions and to recapitulate the film's plot on the basis of texts and images. But Cloud 9 also contains more. Whereas the film relates its individual story, the book goes beyond the fictional private tale and into the social dimension. This is particularly the case with one essay that pointedly illustrates love in old age argumentatively but also entertainingly. Informative highlights illuminate everyday reality and revise an outdated image of old age. Interviews with men and women over sixty give insights into their intimate lives. The film book - like the film - hides nothing. Leafing through this book may give people the impetus to reflect on their own lives. The book as a starting point for a change of thinking.
Incidentally: At the Cannes Film Festival in May 2008, the film CLOUD 9 won the Heart Throb jury prize in the "Un Certain Regard" category!
