Lilo & Lotte
author(s): Susanne Kundt, Claudia Thomas978-3-932855-25-2Lilo & Lotte and their animal friends save the zoo from the economic crisis
Lilo & Lotte is a lively "socioeconomic" story of two kangaroos who, along with their fellow animal friends, are on a quest to prevent the closure of the zoo during difficult economic times. As the story unravels, the reader is treated to a fascinating insight into the animal world and the emotions of the zoo inhabitants.
The zoo has not escaped the effects of the economic crisis: The zoo animals are worried. The senior animals of the zoo meet one night in a concerted effort to address the situation. The giant red kangaroo Lotte and her friends hatch a plant to save the zoo in what is known as "Operation Seerose".
Lilo & Lotte is a narrative story accompanied by plenty of colourful illustrations. The animals take up the main roles and all display human characteristics, as well as their own personalities. They speak and communicate with each other. The story, in addition to dealing with main theme of the economic crisis, also addresses more personal themes such as family, relationships, career, sickness, old age and sexual orientation. The message of the book is obvious: There will always be situations in life that appear to be insurmountable. But with creativity and dedication, many problems can be solved. The courage is needed to take unfamiliar paths and to start again. And in times of an economic crisis, solidarity is more important than ever. A read for all ages!
